Jim Goodwin admits he would love to bring Luca Stephenson back to Tannadice on a permanent deal. The Dundee United boss has regularly utilised the loan market this season, with the likes of Luton Town keeper Jack Walton, Wrexham striker Sam Dalby and Liverpool midfielder Stephenson all having a huge impact. The latter still has a year left on his contract at Anfield but Goodwin confesses he would be interested in signing him again should the opportunity arise.

Jim Goodwin insists talks with players who have deals that are due to run out this summer will be kept on the back burner until Dundee United’s top six fate is determined. The Terrors have a whole host of experienced players whose contracts are set to expire including Declan Gallagher, Glenn Middleton, Kai Fotheringham, Louis Moult and Ross Docherty. However, Goodwin’s full focus remains on United’s top six destiny – not deals – with just three games remaining until the split.

Jim Goodwin has revealed why David Babunski is being left out of the Dundee United starting line-up. The midfielder signed for the Terrors in July from Hungarian outfit Mezőkövesdi on a one-year deal, with the option for a further season. Babunski, a Barcelona academy graduate, hit the ground running for his new club, quickly becoming a fixture in Goodwin’s team.

Dark Blues boss Docherty admits his team have to move on from that disappointing Dons defeat with a crunch clash against Ross County in Dingwall looming large tomorrow.

Dundee United loan star Ruari Paton hopes the story of how he battled back from rejection can inspire other youngsters who are cast onto football’s scrapheap. Paton, 24, was left devastated when he was released by Hibs in 2019 but remained determined not to return to his native Ireland with his tail between his legs. Instead, he decided to stay in Scotland and scale the pyramid, turning out for East Kilbride, Stranraer, Queen of the South and Queen’s Park.
