Welcome back. This is a weekly news summary, told with bias. → Elon x Trump divorce: It’s the breakup of the year. Elon Musk is turning on Trump, Trump on Elon, and there is no prenup. It started slowly.

Welcome back to your week in review. My only housekeeping announcement is that new merch has hit the store just in time for those who use “summer” as a verb or live in the White House: Free Press golf balls. Please add your best tagline for them in the comments.

TGIF: Fit to ServeBiden’s cover-up gets aired out. Trump yells at Walmart. Wannabe citizens compete on reality TV. DOGE fumbles. Dems can’t find their Joe Rogan. And much more. Welcome back. I loved meeting some of you at the San Francisco debate, where I handed out VIP wristbands to anyone who complimented my cropped trousers—which in SF is as close as we get to shorts—or who brought a book for me to sign (any book, I just like being asked to write my name). Let’s turn to the news.

Welcome back to your trusted week in review, written this week from the middle seat on my way to San Francisco for a Free Press debate. Our first flight was canceled after we sat in the plane for many hours, and I’ve slept very little, so I am ready for war. This week is a short one because of that, plus I have to prepare for the big event (attending the debate after-party, and wondering why my pinot noir is taking this long).

Welcome to TGIF, a news summary from a very unreliable narrator. → Pope Bob: A billow of white smoke, and we have a new pope! And he is an American! His name is Robert Prevost—now Pope Leo XIV—and he was born in Chicago before serving as a bishop in Peru. The Vatican chose an American to avoid tariffs, I presume. Prevost was known to be close to Pope Francis and seems likely to carry forth many of his philosophies and efforts, though it’s too soon to tell.
