Introduction Platinum-based chemotherapeutics are DNA-crosslinking agents that target rapidly dividing cancer cells by disrupting DNA synthesis.1 Since the approval of cisplatin by the Food and Drug Administration,2 cisplatin-based combination therapy remains one of the most effective treatments for solid tumors.3 Cisplatin's mechanism of action involves a cytosolic aquation process in which chloro ligands are displaced by water molecules to produce the DNA-binding monoaqua and diaqua forms.
