Applications are now open for a free, two-day intensive reporting workshop to be held at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY in New York City, from June 4-6, 2025. This training is open to journalists who have at least three years of full-time experience or the equivalent. Participants will learn from experts about some of the latest developments and perspectives on aging. They will explore the vast array of issues affecting older adults, from disability to sexuality.

The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, in partnership with the Center for Journalism & Democracy (CJD), is excited to announce it will host another iteration of the Du Bois Data Lab at Howard University this spring. The intensive data-training program immerses students in the essential skills needed for careers in investigative journalism. After launching in 2024, the program will enter its second year with the generous support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The AI Journalism Labs at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, created in partnership with Microsoft, is thrilled to introduce the next cohort of the program — the AI Journalism Lab: Leadership. This exceptional group of 23 journalists, strategists, and executives from across the globe will explore what newsroom leadership looks like in the age of artificial intelligence, and learn to navigate AI in ethical ways.

Five newly minted Craig Newmark Graduated School of Journalism at CUNY alumni have earned the J-School’s inaugural Equity Through Data Award, designated for recent graduates who show outstanding promise as data journalists. The awards, $5,000 for each recipient, came via funds raised for the J-School’s Equity Through Data Project, whose mission includes training students from underrepresented backgrounds to become highly sought data reporters.

Student-powered news outlets at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY have racked up more than 30 awards across three national competitions in recent weeks. The honors, variously from Editor & Publisher, the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) and the College Media Association (CMA), include multiple first-place prizes:The J-School’s NYCity News Service earned the top spot for Best College/University Website in Editor & Publisher’s EPPY Awards competition.
