LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Wildfires are happening more often and they're more intense so far this year, according to CAL FIRE San Diego County. This comes as firefighters continue to battle multiple fires across the state. "I think it's starting to dry out a little sooner this year," said CAL FIRE Capt. Mike Cornette. So far this year there have been 2,100 fires and 90,000 acres burned across the state. That's compared to 1,800 fires and only 5,000 acres burned around the same time last year.

Their new food truck, named "The Lunch Box," aims to provide free, healthy meals to kids while also preparing students for the workforce. "There's a lot of food insecurity in Oceanside, so the idea was sparked about taking these homemade meals and bringing it to food insecure areas," CEO Jodi Diamond said.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to reject a lawsuit challenging the FDA's regulation of Mifepristone can be seen as a win for reproductive rights, advocates say access to the abortion pill is still at risk. "We're feeling relief, but we also are understanding that the Supreme Court did the bare minimum here," Dr. Jill Gibson said. Gibson is the Chief Medical Officer of Planned Parenthood Arizona, who had her training on abortion care in San Diego.

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) — The City of Encinitas plans to reduce speed limits on dozens of streets to make the roads safer. This change comes after multiple fatal accidents over the past year. Encinitas Mayor Tony Kranz said reducing the speed limits is part of the emergency declaration the city issued over e-bikes last year after a 15-year-old boy was hit and killed by a van while riding his bike on El Camino Real near Santa Fe Avenue.

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — Hundreds of people displaced by the January floods are still unable to move back into their homes as the county's temporary housing program is set to expire on June 21. The program is currently helping more than 500 households, which is equivalent to more than 1,500 people. "I get frustrated, stressed... depressed," Melody Jackson said. Jackson has been staying in a hotel through the program for the past four months. She's also currently out of work.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — For over a decade, the North County LGBTQ Resource Center has been a safe space and support system for people in the area. Through the years, the agency has grown and so has the community it serves. "People come to the center for a variety of reasons, sometimes even just to find community," Max Disposti said. Disposti is the Founder and Executive Director. The center is the only agency that services North County's LGBTQ community.
