With regular partner Paul O’Donovan sitting out this week’s championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, McCarthy and Pazzaia finished second in Thursday morning’s heavyweight heat.

SEAMUS COLEMAN AND Sammie Szmodics have been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland’s end-of-season friendly double-header against Senegal and Luxembourg through injury. Everton veteran Coleman picked up a thigh injury in the Toffees’ last-ever game at Goodison Park, a 2-0 win over Southampton, while Szmodics is still recovering from the ankle surgery that has seen him sidelined since February.

SENEGAL WILL BE without star striker Sadio Mané when they travel to the Aviva Stadium for next week’s end-of-season friendly against the Republic of Ireland. The former Liverpool star, now plying his trade with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, is the most notable omission from Pape Thiaw’s 26-man squad. Thiaw described Mané’s absence as a “personal decision”.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC have been hit with a suspended partial stadium closure by the FAI’s Disciplinary Control Unit following multiple fan incidents. The Inchicore club could see a section of Richmond Park closed if there are any further incidents throughout the remainder of the 2025 season. “St Patrick’s Athletic have been informed by the FAI Disciplinary Control Unit of a suspended partial stadium closure for the remainder of the 2025 League of Ireland season,” a club statement on Thursday read.
