The Williamson County Sun earned the top honor in its division at this weekend’s Texas Press Association Convention and Trade Show in Denton. The Sun was the overall Texas Better Newspaper Contest sweepstakes winner in Division 3, meaning the newspaper earned the most points by judges based on submissions across 12 categories. Division 3 represents semi-weekly publications across the state.

Georgetown City Council unanimously approved several ordinance amendments on first reading Tuesday, June 10. Many of the changes focus on public behaviors that often involve the city’s homeless population. The amendments address panhandling, sitting and lying in public spaces, and the use of park amenities. Other general updates focused on soliciting and noise control, as well as parking rules. Police Chief Cory Tchida first presented the changes during a March 11 council workshop.

Georgetown City Council unanimously approved about a dozen changes to the city’s parking ordinances on first reading. Public Works Director Eric Johnson presented the changes Tuesday, saying they clarify parking restrictions and update parking zones. The ordinances were first reviewed by city council during a March workshop. Most changes involve updates to downtown parking, the elimination of hospitality parking permits and signage changes.
