Earlier this week, academics came together with charity leaders, industry members and civil servants for an event at King’s College London that explored opportunities for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the Armed Forces sector. Organised by the Department of Population Health Sciences at King’s in partnership with Combat Stress and funded by the Forces in Mind Trust, the event aimed to build a consensus within the Armed Forces charitable sector on the use of AI.

Researchers from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London are using novel methods to analyse speech recorded in the RADAR-CNS project and applying insights gained from the project to shape new research in this growing field. In a new study, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, researchers analysed RADAR-CNS data collected over three years through a smartphone app from 461 participants with a diagnosis of depression.

Southwest Airlines operated its first flight to Hawaii in March 2019, with the aim of taking advantage of the ETOPS certification of its new Boeing 737 MAX 8s. However, the aircraft's grounding meant that flights were initially flown with the 737-800 instead. Since launching flights from both Oakland (OAK) and San Jose (SJC), Southwest Airlines has expanded its presence in Hawaii, and now operates flights from eight West Coast gateways, as well as several interisland services.
