The United States pulled out their remaining troops from Afghanistan in 2020 after years occupying the country, cementing the country to Taliban rule. The new ruling government has instituted a number of new rules centered around their form of strict religion. Their new form of government has included changing education for the roughly 30 million citizens of the country. The focus, however, has been within women’s education, and specifically, the lack thereof.

On Thursday Nov. 14, legislators in the New Zealand parliament staged a protest to the Treaty Principles Bill. When asked their vote on the proposed bill, 22-year-old Māori Party representative Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke began the ceremonial dance, with other legislators from her party and others from the Green and Labour parties and some in the general audience joining. This culminated in Maipi-Clarke tearing up a copy of the bill in front of the author.

As the Catholic Church and the Vatican have to deal with controversy after controversy, it came as a surprise to many when they released a new mascot for the church. And yes, churches can apparently have mascots. Luce, meaning light in Italian, is a short blue haired girl dressed in a raincoat and boots and drawn in a Chibi, an art style of short characters with big heads and short limbs.

Three years ago, Russia invaded the sovereign state of Ukraine, an action that diplomatically and economically isolated the country from much of the international community. This action may have seemed nonsensical and/or foolish; however, in the background, Russia still had its supporters, that of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) alliance. Over a few days, they convened in Russia for their annual meeting.

The border between the two superpowers, India and China, in Asia, has always been an issue for these two governments. Never specified, it has left both nations to claim the strip of border land as their own, citing a long-standing history to the land that is hotly contested. In the 1960s, the Sino-Indian war broke out over this land, and the feud that had been brewing between the two countries reached its peak.
