On March 7, senior alpine skier Sara Rask swept the NCAA Women’s Alpine skiing National Championships at Dartmouth Skiway, winning both the slalom and giant slalom events. Rask became the 19th Denver skier ever to sweep the national championships and just the sixth woman. Both Denver men’s and women’s basketball teams were eliminated from the Summit League playoffs in Sioux Falls, S.D. last week following losses in the quarterfinals and play-in, respectively. DU Women’s basketball, which was seeded at No. 9 in the Summit League following a 2-14 conference record, was matched up against No. 8 Omaha in the play-in game on March 5. They lost 76-68. Denver was slow to start, going down 10-2 just 2:13 into the first quarter.

Denver men’s basketball hosted Oral Roberts last week, pulling away with a Summit League win, 71-60. Denver took an early lead, led by scoring from freshman guard Sebastian Akins and sophomore guard DeAndre Craig. They each had six of Denver’s first 17, with Akins adding a steal for a fastbreak layup and an assist off the drive for a dunk from junior center Isaiah Carr. This early action gave Denver a 17-7 lead with 12:21 left in the half.

Denver men’s basketball was on the road in North Dakota this week with games against North Dakota on Thursday and North Dakota State on Saturday. They beat North Dakota, 68-64 and lost in overtime to North Dakota State, 89-84. Thursday’s game against North Dakota was all Denver to start. Freshman guard Sebastian Akins got the scoring going early, with nine of Denver’s first fifteen points. He added a steal and assisted a huge slam from senior forward, Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente.

Denver men’s lacrosse got their first win of the season last Saturday at Air Force with a score of 14-8. Senior midfielder Mic Kelly broke the scoring early, with a spin move to beat his defender and get an open shot on goal, which he put away just 1:10 into the first quarter.
