Even divers are finding ways to show off their skills in the streets of New York City, as Virginia Beach Navy divers are swimming through the Crossroads of the World. We spoke with Lt. Troy Telford with Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2. Navy Diver 1st Class Diego Rivero is in the tank with water at about 55 degrees, playing tic-tac-toe with visitors.

(WAVY) — Local sailors are in New York City for the big military celebration at Fleet Week, offering up fun experiences for our service members and an opportunity to engage with the public while providing opportunities for young cadets using this to experience life on board a Navy ship for the first time. Born in San Diego while her father was serving, 14-year-old Sara Magee got to experience Fleet Week as a Sea Cadet.

(WAVY) — Fleet Week is a time for sailors and Marines to show off what they do through ship tours and many other events, as they get invited to things like baseball games, national talk shows and other happenings in New York City. While there is fun to be had, it’s also described as a humbling experience. Many spectators watched the parade of ships enter Manhattan, even on a misty, drizzly day.
