The workers filed for union representation last month amid employee-voiced workplace concerns, which ranged from lack of equipment to safety policies. This is the first group of botanical garden workers to be represented by the International Association of Machinists, or IAM. They will join the IAM Local 10 in Richmond, according to IAM’s website.

    Richmond Mayor-elect Danny Avula announced dozens of additions to his transition team this week, saying he plans to use the expertise of “local community members and subject-matter experts” as he prepares to take office on Jan. 1. “Now that we’re transitioning from campaigning to governing, I’m super excited for this amazing team to ensure we deliver on voters’ priorities and hit the ground running in January,” Avula said in a Wednesday news release.
