With the latest collective bargaining agreement signed in 2020, teams like the New York Jets normally don’t have to worry about signing their draft classes to contracts. All rookie contracts are given a wage scale that can’t be negotiated by any one particular prospect. It’s essentially capped how much a new player in the league can make on their first contract. Still, the Jets have found ways to force holdouts from perspective rookies over the years.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the worst pass defenses in the league last season under head coach Todd Bowles. They vowed to make sure they wouldn't go through that for another season. Their solution? Focus heavily on the secondary in the draft. Tampa Bay drafted both Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish with their second and third round choices. They also signed Colorado safety Shilo Sanders as an undrafted free agent as well.

When Lavonte David was first drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 2012 draft, the organization was in a state of upheaval. Tampa Bay was coming off a four-win season that ended the Raheem Morris era after just three seasons. They were 10 years removed from their historic first Super Bowl. From then on, things weren't exactly easy for David either. Tampa Bay did not reach the playoffs for another eight seasons.
