While Abigail Spanberger is already the party’s nominee for governor, six Democrats are competing for lieutenant governor and two for attorney general. Republicans, meanwhile, do not have any statewide primaries this year. Their nominees have already been set: Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears for governor, John Reid for lieutenant governor and Jason Miyares for attorney general.

The massive military parade set for D.C. on Saturday will feature a number of sights rarely seen in the nation’s capital, including dozens of aircraft flying in airspace that is typically highly restricted. “It’s going to be quite the spectacle,” said Lt. Virginia voters will choose a new governor this year, but first come the state’s primary elections, which are happening on June 17. Early voting begins May 2. There will not be a primary in the governor’s race, as both parties have already selected their nominees — Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger. Most of the action in the primaries will focus on the race for lieutenant governor. Six candidates are competing on the Democratic side.
