The 47th Fredericton Marathon takes over capital city streets this weekend, with nearly 3,000 participants signed up. The full marathon begins 7:30 a.m. Sunday, and also serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. This weekend also includes a five-km event, a 10-km event, and a half-marathon event. A five-km race for elite runners will be held for the first time on Saturday. Motorists are advised of several street closures around Fredericton this weekend, especially around the city’s downtown core.

Rain clouds didn’t deter a spring celebration at the Saint John Public Gardens’ where the 2nd annual Violet Festival took place Saturday and Sunday. The event included gardening workshops, live music and multiple vendors. Plants and flowers grown inside the public gardens’ greenhouse were also available for sale. The Saint John Horticultural Association – a registered charity which maintains the public gardens – hosted the event.
