    The number of New Brunswickers who report having a family doctor continues to decline, albeit at a slower pace, according to a new report out Wednesday. The New Brunswick Health Council survey found 77 per cent of New Brunswickers had a permanent primary health care provider in 2024, compared to 79 per cent in 2023. The report noted 2024 was the first year since 2017 where a significant decline hadn’t been recorded on the metric.

    An education analyst says trading classroom time for professional development days at some New Brunswick schools this fall won’t improve test scores and student attendance. The pilot projectwill see two professional development days a month (on Fridays) at 37 anglophone schools in New Brunswick, starting this September. Paul Bennett, director and lead researcher at the Halifax-based Schoolhouse Institute,said the plan was “extremely unwise” in an interview on Monday.

    A pilot project beginning in September will provide about two professional learning days per month for staff at 37 anglophone schools in New Brunswick. Education and Early Childhood Education Minister Claire Johnson said the pilot program will allow time for “professional improvement, reflection and collaboration.”The professional learning days will be held on Fridays “to support routine and minimize disruption to families,” said the New Brunswick government in a news release.

    A student in Saint John was riding high when she received her high school diploma Thursday thanks to a special guest. Kenzie Simmons was taken to the graduation stage at Simonds High School by her horse Blondie. “I’m just so glad I could bring her,” said Kenzie, standing next to Blondie shortly after receiving her diploma. “She’s my best friend.”The 17-year-old said she’s always had a dream of being able to ride a horse to collect her diploma.
