A couple of weekends ago, my family went to Ithaca, NY for a weekend getaway. Cornell University has a well-known hospitality-management program. As part of that program, they operate an on-campus hotel, the Statler Hotel. Intrigued by the chance to experience five-star-service-in-training, I booked us for a night at the Statler. It was fun to see young students learning the ropes, the hotel is right on campus, and dinner in the restaurant was very good.

Over the past six or seven months, countless losses have rained on our parade: the US Bank Smartly card departed, the Hilton devalued aspirational properties not once but twice, ANA announced that it would scrub its Round the World Award Chart, the Altitude Reserve card stopped taking applications, and the Pepper app seems to have taken an extended and unexpected hiatus.

The past few months have brought a slew of announced changes coming over the next several months. If you’ve felt like your head has been spinning to keep up with deadlines and dates for major program changes, you are not alone. In this post, I wanted to collect and consolidate a bunch of the major to-do’s to consider before they expire over the next several months.

Last summer, I wrote about booking eight seats in business class on Air France using Virgin Atlantic points (booked via the chat feature on the Virgin Atlantic website). I was pretty stoked to grab seats almost a year in advance for my immediate family and four other family members on an itinerary that worked perfectly for a trip to Europe. Unfortunately, in the time since, Air France has had a schedule change that broke my itinerary.

Over the weekend, View from the Wing uncovered a sneaky change in Marriott elite member benefit terms and conditions: whereas Platinum members and above used to be entitled to a complimentary upgrade to the best available room (including standard suites), the terms no longer guarantee “best available room”. In a nutshell, Marriott elites shouldn’t expect suites.

5-night cruise in Feb was my only travel abroad first 5 months of the year. Was abroad ~2/3 of June, less than half of July, and just over half of August & *paid for additional data*. @TMobile offers to sell that, but doesn't want me to use their service when I travel? Confused. https://t.co/wn7wktAjeA

Make a 20-track comp of your all-time fav tracks, each artist can only feature once. Not the 'best' songs, the ones that bring instant joy the second you hear the first note, the ones that give other people the best insight into what stirs your soul. Share when ready. #20tracks

Monetization of the blue check was the dumbest thing ever. We can chuckle here, but the real problem is that it is so easy to not only fall for fake information, but then to print it. I don't doubt that @KingJames would pay to see it (wouldn't we all?) but he didn't say it. Yet. https://t.co/2KxaopaKbf
