Here’s a modified response addressing the points raised in John Massoud's Open Forum:Mr. Massoud is correct that the deeply alarming Los Angeles wildfires are a "self-inflicted disaster." He is correct that "environmental extremism is to blame for the California disaster," at least in part. He is also right that we should use best practices to adapt and mitigate these wildfires. Wildfires are worsening globally.

We are witnessing climate change increase the destructive power and rain volumes of hurricanes. These hurricanes increase morbidity and mortality, not only immediately and locally but also for years into the future and hundreds and even thousands of miles removed. Hurricane Helene, “shut down and covered in mud,” one of the largest factories of IV fluids in America, according to NPR.
