    Ever since we saw Kansas City space-rock act Low Forest play their second-ever show opening for Pallbearer a couple years back, we've been fans of their big, riffy sonic explorations. Right out of the gate, the band didn't go with the usual set of single releases before dropping an EP, but instead put out two albums, Ambivector and Extrovert, whose production allowed them to be synched up and played simultaneously, a la the Flaming Lips' Zaireeka.

    The Scrivenerswith Party Helmet and Vicar AmeliaGaslight GardensSaturday, June 14It was muggy and still, and the Gaslight patio was still dummy-packed Saturday night for a diverse three-band bill. Cheap (good) beers and just enough fans to keep the air from turning into a haze of nicotine and THC kept the audience relaxed and entranced as the sun went down. Lawrence/KC 'hard pop plus saxophone' band the Scriveners are the kind of band that could play with anyone. The Ants? Party Helmet?

    Brandon Petz, president and CEO of Petz Accounting Services, came to Lawrence and The University of Kansas (KU) from the small southwestern Kansas town of Cimarron. His family moved from Hutchinson to what Petz refers to as a “real tiny town” of about 2,000 people, located between Dodge City and Garden City, when the company for which his father worked was sold.
