As the third child of Egyptian parents, Hamed Sayed Hamed and Eman Mohamed, his arrival marked a joyful start to Eid.

There must be wider access to health care if a surge in the number of cancer cases in the UAE is to be reversed, experts said. That was among the chief findings of soon-to-be-published research in The Lancet Oncology, which was responding to the latest figures, released earlier this year, which showed a 60 per cent rise in newly-diagnosed cases between 2019-23.

A woman who was sold an imported car with a tampered mileage clock has warned other used car buyers to complete a full history check before purchasing a second-hand vehicle. In March 2023 Emilia Cosbuc, a personal trainer from Romania, bought her dream car, a Mercedes C200 from a dealership in Sharjah. The 2016 model vehicle had 92,000km on the clock and was offered with a one-year warranty. After a smooth test drive, Ms Cosbuc handed over Dh90,000 for the luxury saloon.

Fierce competition among elite climbers at the rooftop of the world forced one Dubai climber to reconsider her challenge to become the first Pakistani woman to summit the 14 highest peaks on the planet. Former banker Naila Kiani thought long and hard about resuming her challenge before taking on Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 metres), the third-highest mountain in the world, on May 23, almost two years since her last climb.

Abu Dhabi Police have started road testing the first UAE-made Eneron Magnus supercharged patrol vehicle. The Magnus is blast-proofed and can accelerate to 100 kph in 6.3 seconds, with a top speed of about 150 kph. On Wednesday, a fully operational technology demonstration vehicle cruised along the Corniche, tailed by a police escort and motorcycle outriders – the first public outing for the latest addition to the force's rapid response fleet.
