Inspired by the sermon preached by VTS graduate the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde at the Service of Prayer for the Nation, “Have Mercy” is a series of essays and accompanying discussion questions that examine how foundational Christian commitments take on political significance.

NEW YORK, May 27, 2025 – The General Theological Seminary (GTS) has held its 202nd Commencement, conferring degrees on nine students across the Seminary’s Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry programs. The Seminary also conferred Doctor of Divinity degrees, honoris causa, on The Rt. Rev. Jeremiah Williamson ’06, 10th Bishop of Albany, and Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan,Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, in recognition of their service and distinction within the Church.

Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) today celebrated its 202nd Commencement. Degrees and diplomas were conferred on 48 students across the Seminary’s Master of Divinity, Master of Arts, Doctor of Ministry, Doctor of Educational Ministry, Diploma in Theology and Diploma in Anglican Studies programs. The Seminary also conferred four honorary degrees in recognition of significant service to God in the Church and the world, one of which was conferred on an alumnus.

Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) was honored to welcome the Most Rev. Sean W. Rowe, 28th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, to campus this month. Rowe spent two days at the Seminary during which he connected with students, preached in the chapel, delivered an address, and had a meeting with the Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, dean and president of Virginia Theological Seminary, about the future of seminary education.

Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) has extended the admissions deadline for its master’s programs after taking steps to accommodate more students. The Seminary is in the process of converting guest housing into accommodation for single students to meet strong demand for its Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and other master’s-level programs. Following the decision to increase the number of students it can accept, VTS is extending the admissions deadline for the 2025/26 academic year to June 15.
