1. IntroductionIt is estimated that 400,000 people in the UK have type 1 diabetes (T1DM), and this figure is increasing by approximately 4% per year, ranking the UK with one of the highest rates of T1DM in the world [1]. Of this total, 29,000 are children and young people (CYP), representing the highest number of CYP aged 0–14 with T1DM in Europe [2].
