A charity’s reserves can be complicated. They are often held in different types of funds (e.g., restricted, endowment, designated) and can be split between different asset types (e.g., properties, investments, cash). Trustees should be able to understand the reserves held by their charity and consider what target level of reserves the charity should hold. Many charities still report a boilerplate 3 or 6 months of expenditure without true consideration of the types of funds and assets held.

John, the vicar at St Mary’s in Wombwell and Centenary Project worker, Steph run an afterschool service called The Ellis Church. This regular service usually takes place in the main hall at The Ellis primary School with John, Steph and a few volunteers from St Mary’s. Families from the school attend and occasionally school staff, with an average attendance of 21 people.

This year it was the turn of the youth for the Centenary Project’s Annual Wild Away Day, taking place on Saturday the 19th of October again at the Kingswood Inspired Learning at the Dearne Valley Centre. 74 young people from 8 different youth groups joined us with their 27 Youth Workers and members of CP team. This year we opened the invite wider than just Centenary Project groups, welcoming groups that join our Doncaster Youth Hub and Rotherham/Sheffield Youth Hub events.

The Academy Trust Handbook 2024 (ATH 2024) has recently been published and is now available. The ATH 2024 applies with effect from 1 September 2024. The main changes are:While a trust has always been able to enter into operating leases, from 1 September 2024 trusts will also be able to take out finance leases, without approaching the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) for prior approval, where the asset type appears on the Department for Education’s (DfE’s) approved list.
