Graduating senior and U.S. Marine Tanner Liermann first felt a little out of place on the University of Montana campus, being five years older than his 18-year-old classmates. But getting involved with UM’s student veteran organization made him feel closer to his peers. “There are some growing pains, but the military teaches you to be resilient,” Liermann told the Missoulian.

University of Montana graduate Emily Kuntz cried as seven of her Alpha Phi sisters hugged her, squealing with excitement, and handed her three bouquets of flowers after she walked the stage on Saturday at the University of Montana Adams Center. Kuntz said she’ll miss being surrounded by friends and the “college life.”“It feels bittersweet,” Kuntz told the Missoulian outside the arena.

The Lone Rock School Board will be interviewing one superintendent candidate next week as part of their search to replace previous Superintendent Robert DoBell who is currently in hospice care with cancer. The board will be conducting a public interview of Teresa Weems-Byington, who served as superintendent of the Charlo School District for one year, according to a Lone Rock press release. She also worked as an instructional coach and intervention specialist at the St. Regis School District.

People will sometimes ask if Julie Foster, Executive Director of the Ravalli County Economic Development Authority, tries to recruit large companies to set up shop in the Bitterroot. The answer is no. Foster told the Ravalli Republic it would take a budget she doesn’t have, but also would go against the rural way of growing from within. “We work with a lot of companies who I’ve had a 20-year relationship with,” she said.

Sean Doyle says it may be cheesy, but the reason why he does all the volunteer work as President of the Stevensville Civic Club is seeing other people enjoying the projects and events they put on. He was exhausted at last year’s annual Creamery picnic, the organization’s biggest event, but was caught in a photo grinning ear-to-ear watching others enjoy themselves, Doyle said. “That’s the part that really makes it worth it,” Doyle told the Ravalli Republic.
