There also are higher proportions specializing in cattle production and specialty crops. A greater share of non-Hispanic Black farms was at financial risk than Non-Hispanic White farms, according to data on operating profit margins.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recognizes several groups of farmers who have been historically underserved by USDA and operates several programs and policies targeting these groups. Yet, there is limited information about the current financial health of the farms these producers operate, their credit and agricultural program use, which inhibits the measurement of progress toward more equitable outcomes.
