GRAND CHUTE — Yellow towels swirled through the air Wednesday as the WIAA Division 2 state baseball semifinal between Reedsburg and New Berlin Eisenhower concluded. Top-seeded New Berlin Eisenhower (23-5) celebrated alongside its fans after forcing the final out in its 3-1 victory at Fox Cities Stadium. “I love these boys so much, our chemistry is so good and we work all year round to make it to where we are today,” New Berlin Eisenhower pitcher Cal Schneider said.

APPLETON — Aquinas baseball's quest for its second consecutive state title ended Wednesday. Aquinas powered through a higher level of competition to reach its third consecutive state tournament, despite losing several starters to knee injuries this winter.

Local high school baseball squads have to traverse different routes to glory than those of surrounding states. Teams have one opportunity to punch their ticket to the state tournament in surrounding states such as Illinois and Michigan. In Minnesota, teams play in a double-elimination postseason bracket, affording them a chance to rebound from a loss. Yet, overcoming the adversity of winning a sectional round doubleheader has been a staple of Wisconsin high school baseball since 1948.

Current and former Waunakee golfers showered Peyton Albers with water at the conclusion of the WIAA state boys golf tournament Tuesday. The celebratory gesture came after the junior won a three-hole playoff against Hudson's Drake Card to claim the Division 1 state title at University Ridge Golf Course. Albers became an individual state champion a year after helping Waunakee win its inaugural team state title.
