Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Eric. Upon entering the office of my ophthalmologist I noticed that among the people sitting in the waiting room was a man in a wheelchair who obviously to me was born with cerebral palsy. It is, as you know, easy for me to recognize such a disability as our daughter was born that way. I passed him as I walked in to see the doctor as my turn had been called and greeted him. He immediately said hi.

It was quite late on Sunday evening that an email was shared about the fact that Edan Alexander was to be released from captivity on Monday and everyone was invited to Huyler Park in Tenafly to demonstrate support, relief and celebration for the Alexander family who are Tenafly residents. In my estimation it did not matter where Edan was from. He is related to each of us. The Jewish people are one family no matter where our home is. Without a moment of hesitation I knew that I needed to be there.

Should I say that I am thrilled and excited that finally after so many years the long awaited crossing indicator has been installed at the corner of New Bridge and Surrey in Bergenfield? Yes of course, it is a step in the right direction. It allows people to cross at that corner by pushing a button indicating with a light that the traffic should stop for pedestrians. First and foremost, however, is the question of how does this help us on Shabbat? We all know that it does not.

I heard an interview this evening about how the wedding industry is being affected by the various tariffs being placed on imports from various countries (primarily China). I certainly did not know that 90% of all bridal gowns sold in the USA are imported from China.

It was not my intention to begin this with a short discussion about the fond memories we all have of the Rav, zt”l, and the Lubavitcher Rebbe, but since one has not been able to turn on the news over the past few days without hearing of the sad demise of the Pope, I began to think of how different we Jews are in terms of how we memorialize our gedolim.
