    Almost 100 chefs, farmers and celebrities have signed an open letter asking supermarkets to treat farmers more fairly after new research has found half of British fruit and veg growers say they may go out of business in the next 12 months. The survey, which was done by research firm Opinion Matters on behalf of organic veg box company Riverford, found 75 per cent of those asked said treatment by supermarket buyers was one of their top concerns.

I sometimes liken it to a drugs gang regime, where you’ve got the big boss at the top and the little minions in the middle doing the dirty work. And they do exploit that power in the middle. “Farmers are very transparent and have to show their audits for Red Tractor or RSPCA, and there should be that level of transparency further up the chain.

    Almost a quarter of the food eaten in the UK comes from countries vulnerable to the climate crisis, a new report has found. Bananas, grapes, avocados, coffee and tea are among the top food and drinks that will be affected, according to research by Christian Aid, which found 22 per cent of all the fruit, veg, pulses and meat eaten by UK households will be affected.
