Three Dalit workers died from asphyxiation while cleaning a sewage tank at a private dyeing factory near Karaipudur in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruppur district on May 19 and 20. A fourth worker, who survived the incident, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The deceased were identified as Saravanan (30), Venugopal (30), and Hari Krishnan (27), all residents of the Sundamedu area in Tiruppur, belonging to a Scheduled Caste (SC) community.

The Union government recently announced that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be made mandatory for admission to physiotherapy and other allied health courses under a newly introduced competency-based curriculum. This move is said to be a part of a comprehensive overhaul of 10 professional programmes. On April 23, the Union Health Ministry, alongside the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), unveiled the updated curriculum.
