Brentford are set to re-establish a multi-club system after the purchase of Spanish third division side Merida AD. Merida has been bought by Brentford's holding company Best Intentions Actions, rather than the club itself or owner Matthew Benham directly, but the west Londoners will be part of a multi-club system again after Danish side Midtjylland were sold in 2023.

However, in the 87th minute against Eintracht Frankfurt, a match the club's own announcer called the "most important game of the season", the South Korea international was taken off for teenage forward Mathys Tel. The decision by manager Ange Postecoglou was entirely justified as the 32-year-old struggled to impact the game.
