Maimunatu Ibrahima has been sworn in as the first female speaker of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament. The new speaker was sworn in at the second extra-ordinary session of the Parliament in Kano on Thursday, May 23. With the position falling on Togo for this legislative session, Ibrahima’s appointment is in accordance with the parliament’s rotational system for the speakership.

The voice behind many of South Africa’s big club tunes, Zanda Zakuza, has opened up on why she took a break from music. Speaking on BBC’s This is Africa, Zakuza, who shot to fame following several South African club bangers, like Master KG’s 2018 hit Skeleton Move and Club Controller by Prince Kaybee, said she got more than she had anticipated. For her, music at the time as a young lady gave her little or no room to discover herself.

Nigerians have welcomed Pelumi Nubi at the border between Benin Republic and Nigeria after she spent 68 days on the road on a trip from London to Lagos. Nubi was received on Sunday, April 7, by fans and some officials of the Nigerian border services and representatives of the Lagos State Government led by the state’s commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka and the special adviser of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe.
