The suspects, Monday Egbe, 32, and Kenneth Nnoga, 28, were tracked and arrested on May 28, in a neighbouring state. The kidnappers had first abducted Clinton Utomudo on May 22 from his residence in Abraka, and subsequently demanded N200m for his release. The suspect, identified as Friday Obeta, was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad in Nnewi following credible intelligence. During the arrest, police recovered a motorcycle, a MASSOB-branded T-shirt, and an operational ID card belonging to the group.
