Pony Softball Run Rules Sidney

After a close win on Thursday night to wrap up the home schedule, Havre softball went east to Sidney on Friday to take on the Eagles and routed them, (14-2) in six innings. After no score in the first inning, the Blue Ponies came out swinging in the second, taking advantage of three errors by Sidney and scoring six times. In the fourth inning, another Eagles mistake in the field brought in two more runs for Havre and also got another run via an RBI groundout.

Box Elder high school student-athlete Tuarie Stiffarm-Rosette was recognized for a major honor this past weekend. The senior dual-sport athlete was given the 2025 Montana High School Association (MHSA) Outstanding Leadership Performance Award for the winter sports season. The MHSA awards the OLPA to one student-athlete or team from each season of sports in Montana. Stiffarm-Rosette joins the Fairview Warriors girls’ volleyball team as the only winners so far for the 2024-25 school year.

Because of the weather sweeping across the state, plans changed in a hurry for Montana outdoor high school sports, including track and field. Havre as well as 9C schools Big Sandy, Box Elder, Hays Lodge Pole, and Fort Benton all gathered in Lewistown for the Golden Eagle Invitational on Tuesday. The Havre girls’ won the competition with 278.66 points. Havre’s boys’ finished fifth with 76 points, while the Fort Benton boys’ were in third at 114 points.

The 12th annual Fergus Invitational Softball Tournament got going on Friday morning in Lewistown with Havre playing a doubleheader. The Blue Ponies would go on to drop a couple to Southeastern ‘A’ teams in Laurel, (7-6) and Billings Central, (15-9). In the first matchup, Kamree Oliver got the scoring going with an RBI single in the opening inning.

MSU-Northern rodeo took center stage for the MSU rodeo in Bozeman on Thursday night. On night one, the Lights found themselves last of seven schools with 80 points, while the Skylights were in third with 255 points. There were a couple of individual notes from Northern rodeo. Brier Selvidge finished the steer wrestling in 5.4 seconds, which was good for second place. Kenda Statham finished third in goat tying, completing the turn in 7.2 seconds.

Blue Pony softball hosted its second home game of the season on Thursday night, facing Dawson County at Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. The result was a (12-6) Havre victory. It wasn’t all fun and games early on as the Red Devils struck for an RBI single in the top of the first inning. Havre battled back in the third inning, putting up a five-spot in the frame. Adi Olson drove in a run on a single, followed by a Rachel Jette RBI double to score Olson and Camille Keeley.

For competition from March 31st through April 5th, 2025, Chinook High senior Carson Nissen was chosen as the Montana High School Association (MHSA) “Male Athlete of the Week”. Nissen had a field day at the Cal Wearley Memorial Meet in Havre over this last weekend, breaking personal records aplenty as well as qualifying for the state tournament in Missoula next month. He came out of the gates hot, winning the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.54.

MSU-Northern rodeo has been out of competition since September, going through the in-between period that connects the 2024-25 season. Havre softball came away with another dominant performance over the weekend, defeating Miles City, (12-2). New Media Broadcasters talked it over with head coach Tony Vigliotti and he said that no matter the opponent, even this early in the season, any experience is going to pay dividends down the line for his club. “Every time we hit the field and get to play somebody, our at-bats seem to get better,” Vigliotti said.
