The surgeons who performed Bakes’ surgery put in a bone block used to reconstruct bone tissue to address shoulder instability. “I thought for a little bit my career was over,” Bakes said.

SEATTLE — A successful 2025 season enters the history books for Illinois State gymnastics as its season ended on Friday at the NCAA Washington Regional Championships inside Alaska Airlines Arena. Jaye Mack capped her fourth appearance at the NCAA Regionals with a third place finish on the vault, scoring 9.875. Mack continued her strong day as she scored 9.850 on floor for 11th in the event.

Less than 24 hours following its 99-96 loss against Troy University on Wednesday night, the roster turnover for Illinois State women's basketball began. ISU sophomore guard Shannon Dowell announced on her Instagram that she is entering the transfer portal. Dowell led the Redbirds in scoring during the 2024-25 season with 17.6 points per game, fifth-highest in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Illinois State athletics announced a contract extension with ISU football head coach Brock Spack through the 2027 season. With an overall record of 111-74 and 70-54 in Missouri Valley Football Conference play, Spack enters his 17th season at ISU, where he has guided the program to four seasons of 10 wins or more and a 2014 National Championship appearance.
