Mijal: Hi everyone, welcome to Wandering Jews with Mijal and Noam. I’m Mijal. Noam: And I’m Noam. Mijal: and this podcast is our way of trying to unpack big questions being asked by Jews and about the Jews. We absolutely don’t have it all figured out, but we’re gonna try and figure some things out together, whether we make it there or not. It’s really about the process of wandering together and living every episode feeling like we’ve all learned something.

You all know I love to start these episodes with a story. Usually something comical, or self-deprecating, or slightly absurd. Something that reveals some facet of my personality: my love of carbs, my hatred of slash discomfort with board games, my family’s totally normal and healthy obsession with sports. Tiny reminders that I have an identity beyond my job. But the story I’m about to tell you bucks all of that. It’s absurd, but it isn’t comical.

Mijal: Hi everyone. Welcome to Wondering Jews with Mijal and Noam. I’m Mijal and Noam is sadly not with us for this episode. As we say every week, our favorite part of each show is really hearing from you, our listeners.

Welcome to another episode of Israel Open Mic – i.e., my favorite episodes, where we answer your questions. Yes, you, our amazing community, who are so smart and curious and engaged, who write the best emails and ask the best questions ever. And this question, which came from so many different people – including some of my colleagues – well, this one is a doozy: Why is everyone suddenly talking about Meir Kahane? Ok, actually, that’s the gentle version of this question.

Where are young Jewish students? Primarily on their phone, sure — and that is why the vast majority of our content at Unpacked is “direct to consumer” on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Spotify — but they are also in schools. We have a division called Unpacked for Educators, which takes the best Israel and Jewish education videos and podcasts from the Unpacked world, and provides lesson plans and curricula for schools.
