Dr Lane, would you please tell us a bit about yourself and your professional background? I qualified with an honours degree from Newcastle University in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK in 1998. In 2001, I was awarded the Membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) qualification, and this was followed by the diploma in conscious sedation in 2002 from Newcastle University.

Už dantų implantų atradimą turime būti dėkingi genialiam švedų profesoriui Per-Ingvarui Branemarkui. 1952 m. mokslininkas pastebėjo, kad titanas, labai stiprus ir lengvas metalas, įsodintas į natūralų kaulą, ypač lengvai ir greitai prigyja. Šis procesas buvo pavadintas osteointegracija, t.y., kaulo susijungimu. Po 13 metų bandymų P.-I. Branemarkas dantų implantus įsriegė savo pirmajam pacientui, kuris, neturėdamas visų apatinių dantų, buvo priverstas nešioti nepatogų išimamą protezą.
