Palestinian journalists Hossam Shabat and Mohammed Mansour were killed on Monday in Israeli airstrikes that targeted them in separate locations in Gaza. Shabat, a contributor to Al Jazeera Mubasher, was killed in Jabaliya, in northern Gaza, when an Israeli airstrike hit his car.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, assisted by the Palestinian Authority, are entrenching a deadly siege on Jenin and the Jenin refugee camp. In Gaza on 20 January, a 15-year-old child, Zakaria Humaid Barbakh, was shot and killed by an Israeli sniper as he was returning to his home in Rafah. According to video footage, the sniper then shot a man who attempted to rescue the child.
