SENECA — Road construction and repaving can seem simple projects, but Seneca city administrator Scott Moulder says that is far from reality. Many factors affect the timeline of which road projects are done and by whom — including who owns the roads needing work. The South Carolina Department of Transportation owns most of the roads and sidewalks in the city, while Moulder said the city owns “less than 10 (percent)” of roads in the city.

CENTRAL — A search for a suspect in Central led to Pickens County Sheriff’s Office deputies being shot at Friday afternoon until the 12-hour standoff ended early Saturday morning with the suspect in custody. James Franklin Marchbanks of Nuthatch Road in Central is charged with eight counts of attempted murder, three counts of kidnapping, and one count each of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and resisting arrest with a violent weapon.

SENECA— Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority employees were recognized earlier this week for a statewide award they received recently from the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services. OJRSA director of operations Kyle Lindsay presented the employees who won the award as a team during Monday’s monthly meeting of the OJRSA board of directors at the Coneross Wastewater Treatment Facility in Seneca.
