My first encounter with the phenomenal Stanlee was during a gruelling rehearse session for the Adesuwa play. The director, Israel Wekpe had informed us there was an ‘August Visitor’ coming to visit us later in the day. I looked forward to seeing what was going to be special about him. And then he came. His skin was just glittering like all these Oyibo people. In my mind I said, ‘Filmmakers dey enjoy life sha’. We had that celebrity moment with him and took photos with him before he left.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria will today (Friday, August 23) deliver final judgments in the disputes that arose in the conduct of governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi States in 2023. The apex court had taken arguments from lawyers representing various candidates in the disputes on Monday but reserved judgements. However, the Justice Garba Lawal-led 5-man panel of justices has communicated combatants in the legal tussles that its final decision is ready for delivery on Friday.

The year was 2021. The Edo State Government was ramping up on rebuilding our filmmaking industry, especially because Edo State is the home of enormous talent, theatre and creativity. We had ‘Enakhe’ and ‘Blood of Enogie’ running on millions of TVs around the world. These series were shot in Benin City. I wanted to meet the great filmmaker and director, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen. But I did not know how. I wanted to pursue my career in filmmaking. But I did not know where to start. I had zero clue.

Where do I start from? That’s the problem I always have whenever I want to write a new script. First, I will start from the beginning. But where exactly is that beginning? How do you break into a story in a manner that thrills the audience? How do you leave the audience wanting more? I struggled with this issue for years as a storyteller until I came across a video by Jack Grapes. This theatrical veteran analyzed the peculiarities of what makes a story work – in a simple sentence.
