Court remands 23-year-old man for allegedly defiling minor

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Egbunu, in a correctional centre for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, ordered that Egbunu be remanded at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre, Badagry, after he pleaded not guilty to defilement and sexual assault. He also ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Six persons have been reported dead and five others injured in multiple auto crash in Okene LGA of Kogi State, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) official has confirmed. Mr Samuel Ogundayo, FRSC Acting Sector Commander in Kogi, disclosed this on Tuesday. Ogundayo described the accident as “tragic and very unfortunate,” noting that it occurred at Okengwe community of Okene around 8.30 pm on Monday. Seven vehicles were involved in the crash.

Court sentences man to death by hanging for killing stepmother, sister

A Kano High Court on Tuesday, sentenced one Sagiru Rijiyar-Zaki, 22, to death by hanging for killing his stepmother Rabiatu Sagir, and his sister, Munawara. Rijiyar-Zaki, who lives in Kutama Village, Gwarzo Local government area of Kano, was convicted of culpable homicide. Delivering judgment, Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt. Adamu-Aliyu therefore sentenced the convict to death by hanging.

The Police Command in Niger has confirmed a stabbing incident that resulted to the death of a community member, Mohammed Abo’ore, in the Fadikpe area of Minna. The Police Public Relations Officer in Niger, Waisu Abiodun, confirmed this on Monday. He said that the victim was assisting members of vigilance group in apprehending miscreants who were smoking cannabis in the area. Abiodun added that during an arrest attempt, one of the suspects, Nura Buhari, stabbed Abo’ore with scissors and escaped.
Police arrest syndicate for trafficking girls to Mauritania

Operatives at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have detained a syndicate for allegedly trafficking girls from Nigeria to Mauritania for prostitution and sexual exploitation. Court remands two over alleged murder

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of two persons, Adekunle Isiaka, 55, and Clement Ilesanmi, 65, in a correctional facility over alleged murder. The duo, whose addresses were not provided, were charged with conspiracy and murder. The Magistrate, Mr. Olaolu Olanipekun, did not take the plea of the defendants due to lack of jurisdiction. He directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
