The reason for releasing a Best Of album varies significantly from artist to artist, label to label. Sometimes, a “Best Of” album is a near-perfect representation of a band’s work, such as Queen’s Greatest Hits (1981). Some compilations are only issued so that artists can get out of a contract with a label, for instance, the Chaos and Disorder record from 1996 by Prince (or Artist Formerly Known as Prince at the time).

The Messthetics and James Brandon LewisImpulseThe combination of jazz and rock is nothing new; even Sting (e.g., 2003’s Sacred Love) has made a solo career blending these genres. Indeed, there is a place where otherwise seemingly disparate music genres can coalesce and thrive together. Celebrated records such as Floating Points‘ collaboration with the late great Pharoah Sanders for 2021’s Promises.

Forty LoveWarner Music DenmarkWhen a band celebrates 40 years of existence, it’s an accomplishment to be recognized. Whimsical Danes D-A-D have achieved this by infusing their music with a comical sensibility without compromising their original sound. Like Jean Claude Van Damme’s character Frank in Newt Arnold’s 1988 film Bloodsport, they don’t limit themselves to one style.

Invincible ShieldColumbia / EpicJudas Priest are undoubtedly one of the greatest purveyors of traditional heavy metal, Invisible Shield being their 19th studio album. From the moment groups of a certain level (Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest) announce a new release, the same is likely to be met with great expectations. K.K. Downings exited Judas Priest (he was a founding member along with Ian Hill), retiring to play golf, but his recording and touring schedule seems to prove otherwise.

The Circus and the NightwhaleInsideOut MusicObserving the cover of Steve Hackett‘s The Circus and the Nightwhale, one could think this is a variation of the Jonah and the Whale allegory. It’s not immediately apparent what the whale is doing! Is it engulfing the circus tent or trying to save it? In this setting, one can perceive the circus as the walks and tribulations of living, from memories of smoggy landscapes to a bad breakup.

As organizations started to adopt agile frameworks, there was a big shift in focusing on delivering software and less on technical documentation and specifications. Based on one of the values of the ‘Agile Manifesto’, ‘Working software over comprehensive documentation’, the specification of requirements has been reduced to as minimum as possible, if any. That was a huge misconception in organizations that adopting agile meant their projects didn’t need any documentation at all.

Managing the backlog is not always easy, given its importance. One can't forget that the backlog is the only source of requirements for a product. Yet, it may have needs or requests from various stakeholders. The backlog is valuable in dealing with unpredictability and uncertainty. But it can also disrupt progress and the flow of value, leading to significant setbacks.
