    Virgin Atlantic said it is on course to make its first profit since the pandemic after strong demand for winter breaks in the Caribbean boosted business, writes Hugo Duncan. The airline - which is co-owned by Richard Branson's Virgin Group and US carrier Delta Airlines - yesterday reported losses of £139m for 2023 following a £206m loss the previous year. But revenues rose by £265m to a record £3.1bn as high-spending British holidaymakers splashed out on winter breaks in the Caribbean.

    Virgin's 2022 results, published on Wednesday, showed the transatlantic-focused airline's recovery from COVID-19, which it only narrowly survived. Revenues recovered to 98 per cent of 2019 levels and it reported a pretax loss before exceptional items of 206 million pounds. But the airline warned it would not return to profit until 2024, having previously forecast it would be profitable this year.
