The man at the centre of the infamous 17-hour Travers Street police siege in October 2022 will remain behind bars until at least early 2026, after being sentenced for multiple offences. Marcus Collins, 31, pled guilty to four charges: breaking and entering and committing a serious indictable offence; stealing a firearm; using an offensive weapon to avoid apprehension; and possessing a shortened firearm.

Griffith Police have urged residents to keep their vehicles locked and not to keep valuables or garage door remotes in their cars, after a spate of break-ins last week. At about 6:30 pm on Tuesday (8 April) and the following night between 10:30 pm on Wednesday and 6 am on Thursday, a large number of residences and vehicles were broken into in Driver, Collina and Willandra Gardens estate, and the vicinity of Sidlow Road.

A man has been arrested in Griffith after a dramatic police chase in which a car seen driving on the wrong side of the road was later found after crashing into a tree. Witnesses have told Region that the chase was “like in the movies” and that bystanders were lucky not to have been seriously injured. Detective Sergeant Colleen Hayden said it occurred on Saturday (12 April), when police observed a 28-year-old male in Marcus street, Griffith, driving a green Holden Commodore sedan.
