Like gingerbread houses, boozy cider, and Mariah Carey, it’s just not the holidays without a little TV. Holiday-themed episodes present sitcoms with an opportunity to take a detour from their current story arcs and get extra-creative. Unfortunately, shows tend to take better advantage of a Halloween theme than they do with the winter holidays, too often opting to make heavy, “very special episodes” versus a joke-stuffed feast.

As we’ve discussed before, there’s simply not enough Thanksgiving-themed TV. Turkey Day has long been dominated by football, James Bond marathons, Christmas specials, and Friends reruns. If you’re all Friends-ed out, though, there’s another sitcom that you can fire up for a festive binge watch. Since its third season, Bob’s Burgers has routinely churned out a Thanksgiving-themed episode, establishing itself as patriarch Bob’s favorite holiday.

October is for all things horror, from haunted houses to orange Oreos. The bulk of Spooky Season is best spent binging horror movie marathons as networks stuff their schedules and streaming libraries full of festive media much like how December is loaded with Christmas everything. And like Christmas, Halloween is a popular holiday for TV shows to theme episodes around.
