Regular cruise-ins held locally this summer

Classic vehicles will be on display this summer at cruise-ins in Bryan, Montpelier, Wauseon and Napoleon. Bryan Cruise-In on the Square kicked off its season on May 16. It will run every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. on the square. The cruise-in is free and often draws as many as 100 classic vehicles weekly. Three grand cruise-ins are scheduled for this year: June 20, July 11 and Aug. 8.

For those interested in spending some time outdoors this summer, there are plenty of options for camping in northwest Ohio and northeast Indiana. Harrison Lake State Park, at 26246 Harrison Lake Road, Fayette, has 3.5 miles of trails along the lakeshore great for spotting native species. The park also has tent and RV camping, cabin rentals, a nine-hole disc golf course, volleyball and basketball courts and horseshoe pits. It is also pet-friendly with a designated dog swimming area.

WEST UNITY — Throughout her 12 years as a student at Hilltop, Marissa Bennett has maintained an academic mindset while also letting her creativity shine through. Bennett, daughter of Alan and Kerri Bennett and sister to Trinity and Ayden, is valedictorian of her class and will graduate with a 4.0 GPA. When she’s not hitting the books, she’s painting, making bracelets, listening to vinyl records, playing her saxophone or trumpet or singing on a stage.

STRYKER — Taylore Rethmel has been busy during her four years at Stryker High School. Rethmel is the daughter of David and Amanda Rethmel and sister to Jaydin and Mary. Valedictorian of her class, three-sport athlete and student council vice president, Rethmel says she achieved it all with hard work and help from others. Becoming valedictorian became her goal, she explained, when she realized it was in reach.

Commissioners, EMS hold forum to discuss levy

Williams County commissioners and Williams County EMS hosted a public forum Tuesday to discuss putting an operational levy on the general election ballot after a 3.5 mil levy was defeated last year 55% to 45%. After months of discussing options moving forward, commissioners, alongside EMS Director Kyle Brigle and Assistant Director Jesse Brumbaugh, brought a new proposal to prospective voters for feedback.
