On Deaf Awareness Week (5 – 11 May), Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is raising awareness about the support and resources available to those who are deaf or hard of hearing—most importantly, the provision of specialist smoke alarms through free Home Fire Safety Visits. AF&RS continually offers hard-of-hearing smoke alarms as part of its commitment to protecting every member of the community.

Big Nath, well-known across Bristol’s street food scene, prepared his signature chilli for the watch during a visit to the station on a sunny evening.

This visit is part of the long-standing partnership through the charity Gambia and Avon Fire Services in Partnership (GAFSIP), which has been supporting the Gambia Fire Service (GFS) by sharing knowledge equipment and safety advice in The Gambia for over 30 years.

Bath Fire Station is opening its doors to the community to raise awareness of the role the Fire Service play in Water Rescue. The station will be open to the public on Saturday 12th April from 11am to 3pm to host a fun, family friendly, water focussed event which is free to all. In 2024, Avon Fire & Rescue Service attended 100 rescues or evacuations from water, highlighting the importance of Water Safety education.
