    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Blaine’s Art in Anchorage hosted artists from any age or experience group for a reception Saturday. Amanda Bennett, who owns Blaine’s, said hosting the artist’s choice show and reception was intended to bring artists in the community together. With artist submissions from ages 7-70, Bennett said she hoped more local artists would find connection in the community. While Bennett said she can’t speak for the art scene in entirety, she’s heard it can feel disjointed.

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Early morning Saturday, Utqiagvik saw the sun set for the last time until August 2. The sun dipped below the horizon at approximately 1:54 a.m. Saturday. The brief “night,” which is difficult to distinguish on FAA weather cameras due to cloudy, overcast conditions, lasted roughly an hour. According to Timeanddate.com, the sun rose once again at 2:51 a.m..

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Anchorage weekend market is kicking off its season on Mother’s Day weekend. According to Michelle Victory, owner of Alaska Markets and Events, the weekend market is entering it’s 33rd year in 2025. Though they’ve changed locations in the past, Victory says a downtown location speaks to the event’s spirit. The vendor lineup varies widely from food to art or gifts — almost all of which Victory says are Alaskan-made.

    ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Following recent votes to reverse cuts in the Anchorage School District, staff could potentially remain in the positions they thought might no longer be available. A letter from ASD Deputy Chief of Schools, Dr. Kersten Johnson-Struempler, and Senior Director of Talent Management, Peggy Rankin, sent to all certificated staff on Wednesday states the possibility of reinstating previously reduced positions or programs.
