The FAW Men’s & Women’s Tier 2 First Instance Body met on 7 and 8 May 2025 to consider the Tier 2 Licensing Applications for the 2025/26 season. The Panel assessed 67 applicants for the men’s Tier 2 Certification. 51 of the 67 applications for a Tier 2 licence have been successful, including 29 of the current JD Cymru North and JD Cymru South clubs and 22 clubs in Tier 3. The Panel assessed 24 applicants for the women’s Tier 2 Certification.

The New Saints manager Craig Harrison insists he already has an eye on preparations for a new European campaign after completing a ‘brilliant’ treble-winning season. With the Nathaniel MG Cup and JD Cymru Premier title already secured, the Saints went into Sunday’s JD Welsh Cup final against Connah’s Quay looking to complete a full sweep of domestic titles for the third time in their history.

Former Connah’s Quay Nomads manager Neil Gibson has backed his old side to retain the JD Welsh Cup on Sunday, claiming they are ‘more than capable’ of defeating The New Saints again. Gibson, now at the helm of English National League side Wealdstone, guided Connah’s Quay to a shock victory over TNS in last season’s final – the third time he had lifted the trophy.

The last time that The New Saints won the treble in 2016, it was Ryan Brobbel who played a part in securing it with a goal in the JD Welsh Cup final to help defeat Airbus 2-0. Nine years on, Brobbel is one of only two members of the playing squad that season – along with Adrian Cieslewicz – who remains at Park Hall as they aim to complete another treble in Sunday’s JD Welsh Cup final against Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The sight of dependable defender Chris Marriott on JD Welsh Cup final day is becoming almost as much of a tradition as the event itself. The 35-year-old, now donning the colours of Connah’s Quay Nomads, has appeared in nine of the last 10 finals, winning the Cup on seven occasions with The New Saints. Sunday’s JD Welsh Cup final sees Marriott aiming to secure his first silverware with the Nomads, against his former club, after ending a 15-year association with the Saints last summer.
