For Roy Murnaghan, a gay teen who grew up in a small town in Prince Edward Island, social media was a treasured escape. It was a place where the 19-year-old University of Toronto student could find comfort while scrolling silly videos and memes, but also connect with LGBTQ influencers and communities where he felt reflected and seen. But these days, he said, it sometimes feels more like a hellscape.

A judge has granted all existing supervised consumption sites that were scheduled to close on April 1 an injunction so they can continue operating until a final decision is rendered in a court challenge. On Friday, Ontario Superior Court Judge John Callaghan ruled that the sites can stay open past the April 1 date, noting that the exemption is for a limited period. In his decision, he wrote that the closure of the supervised consumption sites would cause “significant harm,” including loss of life.

Got it - so you went on a diatribe about how the Star had not done its due diligence by trying to capture local concerns and feelings after the site closed, but acknowledge you have made no attempt to do so yourself. Seems totally reasonable.

@OmarMosleh I haven’t published anything since the site closed - I’m working on a book - but I’m very aware that most people in the area are concerned about the fentanyl crisis. How people feel about our mismanaged site often depends on how close they lived/worked to it.
