After a terrorist killed four members of a Muslim family in London, Ontario in 2021, the Government of Canada organized a National Summit on Islamophobia. Among the over 100 recommendations to emerge was the creation of a Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, similar to Canada’s 2020 appointment of a Special Envoy on Anti-Semitism.

Today my son asked if he could have surgery. Surgery for extra fingers. Surgery, for a five-year-old, so he can “grab more stuff.” While I fully support gender-affirming care, I draw the line at spider-affirming care. Especially in children this young.
